Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. Christ may not have been born on December 25 but He is celebrated on that date because the first recorded date of Christmas was on December 25 in 336, by the Roman Emperor Constantine. The phase “Merry Christmas” now implies that people should make merry and enjoy in the celebration of His birth. Many people celebrate Christmas with no mention of Christ. It became a pagan holiday with wild parties similar to Mari Gras. It is not observed by many Christians because of its pagan influences. The gift giving started because of the “gift” that God gave to us; His son Jesus. We celebrate Christmas by stringing lights because Jesus is the “light of the world”. And, we celebrate Christmas with evergreen trees because it was an ancient symbol of life during the winter months (started by England in the 1800’s). Christmas has become more of a commercial pagan holiday with people celebrating this time of the year as a day to bring family together not to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Take time this year and recognize that Jesus is the reason we celebrate Christmas.
