Why are people that love the Lord and follow his precepts still in bondage; broken relationships, illnesses, financial lack, spiritual harassment etc.? Because, most have not dealt with the sins of their forefathers or ancestors. In the bible, Exodus 20:5, Exo 34:7, Num 14:18 and Deu 5:9, all say that “the sins of the fathers shall be passed on to the third and fourth generation of those that hate the Lord”.

There are many that dispute these verses, using two other scriptures. Some even state that the generational curse is not valid anymore because Jesus took on our sins.
• Proverbs 26:2 “A curse without cause shall not come.”
• Ex 18:20 “The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity…”

Proverbs 26:2 says there will not be a curse unless there is a cause. We all sin so there will always be a cause. We must repent of our sin.
As far as Ex 18:20, it says “a person who sins will die; we will die because of our own sins, not the sins of our fathers”. The penalty for sin is death. Jesus died for our sin, those that believe, so we can have eternal life. Jesus did not repent for the disobedience of our fathers. If there is sin in our family, we must acknowledge and repent to remove the legal right for evil spirits that cause bondage and illness in our lives.

When we sin, (Jesus told us in Luke 13:5 “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”), we must repent. So why do we expect the sins of our fathers that were not repented to be wiped clean when God has told us the they will carry on for 4 generations.
In Nehemiah 9, the descendants of Israel stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. They confessed the sins because they were a product of their parent’s disobedience. They understood the law of inequity of the forefathers.
One can interpret these scriptures however they desire but the truth is Exodus 20 is something that a Deliverance Minister uncovers while combating the legal rights of demons in a person’s life. Not only is it valid for today, a curse that is passed for four generations only ceases if that sin is not practiced in the four generations. Once it is revisited, the time starts all over. Demons and curses are real. Repent for your sins and the sins of your ancestors that were disobedient to God.
