Have you ever heard people, while praying about physical ailments, say “by His stripes we are healed” relating it to physical healing? What are they saying? Are they implying that “physical healing was included in the Atonement (Jesus death at the cross)? I have heard ministers tell individuals that they are sick because they do not have faith. If one actually dissects the scripture Isaiah 53:5 and the context, it is apparent that Jesus bore our sins in His own body, not our physical infirmities. If that was so, why are babies born with sickness? Why do people who have faith in God get sick and die. Why is it when we are baptized to show the inward commitment and belief, we are not immediately healed of our infirmities? Yes, sickness started with sin but sickness is not sin. Sickness is not disobedience to God; sin is.

Jesus did not take away sin nor did He take away our physical infirmities. He took the punishment for our sin which was death. We still sin and we still get sick. If Jesus took away our infirmities, why did Timothy in chapter 5:23 tell us, “Stop drinking water; instead, use a little wine for the sake of your digestion and because of your frequent illnesses’. Can God heal our infirmities? Yes, He can, but it is in His timing not ours. We just need to live a life that is approved by God and have faith that He will do so. If not now, we know that we all will be healed of infirmities when we have our new and incorruptible, immortal glorified body (1 Corinthians 15:52-55).

Don’t allow anyone to tell you that you are sick because you lack faith! That is judgement and condemnation. Only God truly knows your true level of faith.
