Many people ask where to start when reading the bible. My response without hesitation is the New Testament. I thought I could read the bible like a book, from beginning to end, old to new; but I soon realized that it was quite disturbing without knowing about our savior Jesus. We have four gospels (good news) in the New Testament. Each one focus on a different perspective on the life of Jesus. The four books are;
- John (Christ is God)- shows that Jesus is God. John was the only of the four writers that knew Jesus.
- Matthew (Christ the King) – shows that Jesus is the Messiah promised in the Old Testament
- Luke (Christ the Man) – shows us that Jesus is the perfect man. He was able to feel human emotions as well as express other human traits.
- Mark (Christ the Servant) shows that Jesus was a Jew and a Servant.
I suggest starting with the Book of John to first understand the deity of Christ. After understanding the Gospels, I suggest we understand our authority and justification in Christ before reading the Old Testament, leaving Revelation (last book in the New Testament) for last.
