I address the subject of Jesus being creator with people of the Jehovah’s Witness faith when knock on my door to share their beliefs. They tell me that Jesus was a created being; the first born by God. They use Col 1:15 as proof of their beliefs the “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation”. Such a doctrine, however, conflicts with the rest of the Bible. Christ could not be both creator and created.  John clearly names Him Creator. When you examine the verse after “first born”, “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him, It says that Jesus is the creator, not created. He is the firstborn from the dead. We know from such scriptures as 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 that God has resurrected no one to eternal life prior to Christ.

In Psa_89:27, God says that He will make David His firstborn higher than the kings of the earth. The word “firstborn” is used to designate a place of superiority. There, God says that He will make David His firstborn higher than the kings of the earth. The expression “firstborn over all creation” has nothing to do with birth in Col 1:15; It is a title of priority of position, and not simply one of time. Jesus is the first to be resurrected of all creation.
