Many people preach that we are not to judge others. Matthew 7:1 is one of the most misinterpreted scriptures in the bible. That is because people do not take the scripture in context by reading the entire passage. They take that one line and run with it.

Mat 7:1 “Judge not, that ye be not judged” is one line in a passage where Jesus was speaking to hypocrites who don’t practice what they preach. He does not tell them not to judge; instead judging is not done until they get themselves right with God. How do you teach your children about sin and godly principles if we cannot judge? Do we sit back and allow a rapist or child molester continue in sin because “we cannot judge”?

The bible says that those that are spiritual “judge all things” 1Cor 2:15. It also says, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” John 7:24.

What Jesus is doing here is passing judgment on those who improperly judge others. Many people have allowed sin in the church because of the misreading of this verse. Stop hiding behind this scripture using it as a shield for sin. How can we become accountable if we cannot judge?
